|
According to Corriere della Sera, the formula one pilot - Michael Schumacher - might buy Castle Tafuri located nearby Portopalo in the Syracuse province of Sicily. The deal should be reached soon, apparently because Corinne - Schumacher's wife - is rumored to have totally fallen in love for Sicily during a trip there.

The Brunos hired an architect from Florence and local people to build the castle. Its liberty style is indisputable, but strong regional influences make it a unique architectural work. The castle was never frequented by the Bruno family because it was built only as summer residence. Perhaps, they had in mind to turn the place into a resort, but this never happened.
When the fortunes of the family collapsed since of the changing economic times in the '60s, they sold the castle to a local pharmacist, Gaetano Tafuri from Pachino, who used the building as his summer residence for a while. The castle turned into a dancing room and then into a four-star hotel through the '90s before being left to itself in the following years.
